He came to Die

...“Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29 NIV) It was almost mid day on Chirstmas eve and I had bought no gifts for my kids. I was tired from a recent travel plus with one sick child I did not want to go shopping. All these thoughts are rushing through me about the real reason for Christmas. Yes, not what the world has made it to be.  I did not want to buy toys just because I wanted a fancy looking Christmas tree. Making the kids all excited and contribute to the wrong message of Christmas. All what was under our tree was the nativity scene. The blameless Son of God  who became sin for us to live. For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. (1 Peter 1:18-19 NIV) I thought about how perishable toys are and how the very next day m...

Unconditional love on the Cross

Unconditional love shown on the cross. There is no forgiveness without the blood of Christ on the cross. Death was conquered on the cross.  There is life on the cross since Christ became sin and took our punishment. Sin is the gap between heaven and earth.  The only bridge/access to heaven is the cross. Love on the cross was/is mercy to all. We  were spared what we deserved, death. Christ paid the price for our sins so we can live.  Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. (Isaiah 53:4 NIV) Unconditional love like no other. This love on the cross is a free gift to all who are willing to receive it. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5 NIV) The first step to the cross is Faith.  Believing in the unknown mystery of the God of creation. For it is by gr...

Anniversary Complications!

Image
This post is for all my immigrant friends living in foreign lands. Know that it is not by chance that you are where you are at this moment. God brought you this far and He will see you through no matter what you are going through. Make the land your own, arise and shine beyond your complications. "Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you."(Isaiah 60:1 NIV)  Keep seeking Him daily in prayers and meditations. Tell him all your struggles and complications. Bring all your secrets to him for he knows already.  "would not God have discovered it, since he knows the secrets of the heart? "(Psalm 44:21 NIV) As immigrants certain questions can only be answered with, "it is complicated to explain". We often don't know where to start and rather not answer such questions. If you are like me, I really don't have a perfect answer to the question; when is your wedding anniversary? The reason is c...

my kinky freedom story

Finding freedom with my natural hair

Image
I found a treasure in my drawer. A picture of my mother and grandma.  I stopped and starred at it for a long time. I love them so much for all what they are to me.  What strikes  me about the picture is how natural they look physically. I know their inside is even better but my focus was on the first look. ( my mother and grandma picture, was taken in 1976. Before the slavery of the straight hair bondage). This picture was taken when black women had other life challenges( not hair) to worry about. The straight hair bondage was not an addiction.  Men learned to love women for their character and inner spirit. They were taught that "Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised" (Proverbs 31:30 NIV)  Families had very little but were content with what they hard. Lasting relationships where found based on character not looks. Spending hundreds of dollars on hair was not an option. Then the bondage of straight lon...

Angels at our wedding

Image
For it is written: “ ‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; (Luke 4:10 NIV) Being raised in Cameroon and now living in America is such a challenge. Life as a foreigner comes with lots of set backs. Having family back in your birth country puts a longing of always wanting to return home. We wanted a church wedding to be in Cameroon. This was going to be a thanksgiving occasion to bring both families together for a good reason. Giving thanks to God for all our blessings and for bringing us this far. Our church wedding was delayed because of documentation issues. We prayed a lot about this asking God for guidance and how to go about things. The dowry was paid, civil wedding done, but the longing to present our marriage before our Heavenly Father seemed distant. Finally, documentation issues cleared up and there was light in the dark tunnel. God had not forgotten about us. He heard all our cries and made the impossible possible. He provid...

The Gift of Prophecy

Image
I am not one of those who go around looking for people to prophesy about the future. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:34 NIV) There are lots of false prophets out there and people have to watch out for them.  “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. (Matthew 7:15 NIV) My personal relationship with my savior Christ is enough for me. I've experienced the the work of the Holy Spirit in my life. The Holy Spirit can only be experienced personally for one to belief. It is the power of God in a supernatural way. Others will call you crazy but other believers in Christ know what you are talking about. Some believers are blessed with this very special gift. Below is one the passages of spiritual gifts; Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given th...

Bad dreams

At about 4:15 a.m our girls came running into our room because of a bad dream. I was up already to use the bathroom and noticed I was dreaming about someone that does not like us. Usually I will say a prayer and go back to sleep. Over the years what I've learned with my walk with God is, He wakes me up at night to pray. I know for sure the devil is up to no good at such moments. My 4 year said " mommy can we sleep with you please? We had a very bad dream" what was strange is both of them came.  Did she wake her sister? I asked her what the dream was about and she  said " a very bad dream please let's get in your bed." Right when they came in, my husband had gotten up to use the bathroom. Which was good because we were all up.  I reminded them that Jesus is with them always and they should call on his name when afraid. I took them back to thier room and my husband and I went on our knees by thier bed and prayed with them. And pray in the Spirit on all occasio...

Be Quick to Listen

Most often I am a very good listener except when I'm very tired. Which has been the case with having kids. Some days are tiring than others and on the tiring days, things just don't go right in my world. Today was one of such days. I had a very  long week with very little sleep that left me restless. Yes, on Saturday's I try to sleep in if I can depending on when the kids wake up. Also, Saturday's are lazy days for us to keep life a little relaxed. Today, my husband had to work making it a very short weekend. He forgot his pager at home which meant I had to call him every time a page came in. I was not ready for this job today and decided take the pager to his job. I told the kids I will be back in a moment and that they should be good to grandpa. As I was pulling out of the garage, my two year old tried to stop me. "Mommy, where are you going?" Me: daddy left his pager so I need to take it to him. I will be back soon. As I slow...

True Happiness is Eternal

" if you are happy and you know it clap your hands" This phrase works best for kids who are satisfied and playing. Their innocent happy spirit shows us clearly that happiness is momentarily.  They are happy because they are with thier friends and playing, they are happy because they are watching a movie they like, they are happy because you offered them cookie or ice cream. Something made them happy and this mode can change within seconds. Tell a child playing outside with friends it is time to go home and see the results.  " if you are sad and you know it stamp your feet" Why should we all not know by now that happiness is temporary? We think if we achieve this or that then we will be happy. Yet, human discontentment kicks in and happiness creeps out.  But godliness with contentment is great gain. (1 Timothy 6:6 NIV) There is always that something we think will make us happy/ happier. When that thing is gotten, we are happy for a moment and that is it. A good examp...

Our Kids Are Not Stress

Ever since I became a mother I've made it a habit of talking to other mothers. I talk to strangers about their kids. I know mothers in this country are more stressed compared to other countries. I'm in it and know the feeling. I know what it means to have little or no sleep at night and still have to be awake during the day. The feeling of thinking you are the only mother with kids acting up and scared to take them out.  The fear of loosing your mind because they don't listen or obey you.  The thought of you are not a good enough mother to your kids due to pressure from other mothers. You are not alone in this season. You are okay as long as you remain the boss to your kids. Constant discipline and lots of prayers will one day pay off. What helps me most is starting my day with prayers. Praying for a good attitude towards my kids despite thier crying and nagging. Asking God for strength each day is all we need as mothers. I look at kids as a blessing and not stress. They ne...

We Need Each Other

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. (Ecclesiastes 4:9 ESV) Have you ever wondered why this passage is included in the Bible? Maybe you have heard it read at weddings or, someone mentioned it to you or, you have read it from your personal bible. Two people working hand in hand respecting and appreciating each other will have a better return. Adding God into this bond makes it even stronger " a cord of three strands can't be easily broken". Ecclesiastes 4:12 Accepting our total reliance on God for strength helps us work better with each other. Acknowledging we need each other can be very humbling. Realizing "we" is a stronger word than "I" is powerful. It's just like our body parts working well when in good health. We know the importance of a healthy leg when we have a fracture. Talk to someone who lost a loving spouse and you will hear them tell you more. The question is, how do we accept we need each other? Our ...

How God gave me a new sight

Two years ago my husband and I went through an eye opening spiritual storm. It was made clear to us that those we had called friends where in a cult. We had no idea about this until Christ Jesus revealed to us all what was in the dark.  Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God. (1 Corinthians 4:5 NIV) We had friends that had gotten so close to us and almost was like family. We dined and had lots of functions together because all we could see was their outside.  We had no reason to be judgemental or question thier friendship until God's appointed time.  What  got us frustrated was, they tried to get us involved blindly. Praise be to God in heaven for always watching over his children. These friends convinced us to use thier vacation package they did not need anymore. It sounded so true and...

Thank you for stopping by!

Thank you is what we all try to teach our kids to say in appreciation of something. It still does not come naturally to many people because humans are hard to please. We get hurt when we don't get a thank you for something we did. We sometimes just need to be appreciated as an encouragement to keep up with the good work. Others, become enslaved to people because of what was done to them. People need us to return a favor that was done. We become yoked to each other because thank you is not enough anymore. I'm not saying you should not help a neighbor if you can. What I'm saying is, do not expect anything in return.  What I've learned over the years is you can't please humans. " Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ." (Galatians 1:10 NIV) No matter how hard you try someone will complain. Someone people wil...

He is our refuge

If you leave in my area then, you must have been up early due to the storms. The sound of thunder and lightening where so strong and loud. I woke up to the loud noise it caused waiting to see if my kids will hear them. Before long, both girls came rushing straight into our room and on our bed looking for refuge. We could notice the fear and fright on their faces. They rushed to us because they see us as their refuge. They know nothing will happen to them if we are around. They felt safe and went right back to sleep knowing daddy and mommy are next to them. I prayed that God should calm the storm and to keep us safe. All I could think of was how powerful is our God in Heaven. He created the storms and lightening also. What a powerful God he is. Just like my kids run to us, God wants us to run straight to him when afraid. He is waiting with open arms to embrace and comfort us through the storms of life. He should be our rescue not anyone else or an idol. If you say, “The Lord is my refug...

Our Struggle

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 6:12 NIV) I have come across people that are believers but are unwilling to get into the word. Also, I've had people asked me that you must be getting attacks from the devil. The reason is clear, people don't want to get into the word because trials will come their way. When ever you are on fire for The Lord our enemy is angry. Attacks will come from all angles trying to stop you. You will feel descouraged and want to give up. Spiritaul attacks is our struggle here on earth as followers of Christ. It is a spiritual battle which is the reason some may think you are hallucinating, when you tell them what you are going through.  Even in the days of Jesus people said he was out of his mind. " When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they s...

Only Christ can fill our vacuum!!

But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” (Romans 10:8-11 NIV) The message: what is your salvation story? Have you made Christ The Lord of your life? Have you confessed that you are a sinner and asked for forgiveness from God. If not, take time today and invite Christ into your heart. Make him the center of your life. Ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit which is the seal of our salvation and our helper. Let the Holy Spirit guide your heart and mind as you go about today and always.  Lately, I've talked to people whose souls are restles...

A Mother's Bond

The connection we have with our children  is very powerful. The bond can not be broken. It is a love like no other. A love that speaks from the heart with a very powerful intuition. God made us carry them in our bodies for almost 10 months. This pregnancy process is a bonding mystery. Feeling the baby move and it can actually respond when you talk to them. I remember my babies giving me kicks of assurance when I asked if they are ok in there. What a magical feeling it is. The bonding continuous as we hear the first cry that pierces our hearts, nursing them, waking up at night and going through days with very limited sleep. Stirring at them to see if we'll see a body part actuall grow instantly. All the smiles and crying only builds up a stronger bond etc. We get soo attached to them that even leaving them home with our husbands is scary. Yet, we have to trust God and pray that we meet them alive when we return. I realized that this mother child bond is the same way God wants us to ...

God turns our marriage mess into a marriage ministry!

Image
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? (Ecclesiastes 4:9-11 NIV) My marriage journey has been the most challenging so far in my life. Yet God has changed me in so many ways. I've learned and accepted that the only way out to a successful marriage is putting God first. He knows our mess already so why hide them from him. One thing I told my husband a lot when we first got married was I'm not perfect. He did not understand why I repeatedly told him this when he pointed at my imperfections. On the contrary his job as a physician had taught him to be perfect. What a mess for perfection to meet imperfection. We struggled and clashed a lot about our differences. Things even got worse because our messy family backgrounds had lots of hu...
