True Happiness is Eternal
" if you are happy and you know it clap your hands"
This phrase works best for kids who are satisfied and playing. Their innocent happy spirit shows us clearly that happiness is momentarily.
They are happy because they are with thier friends and playing, they are happy because they are watching a movie they like, they are happy because you offered them cookie or ice cream.
Something made them happy and this mode can change within seconds. Tell a child playing outside with friends it is time to go home and see the results.
" if you are sad and you know it stamp your feet"
Why should we all not know by now that happiness is temporary?
We think if we achieve this or that then we will be happy. Yet, human discontentment kicks in and happiness creeps out.
But godliness with contentment is great gain. (1 Timothy 6:6 NIV)
There is always that something we think will make us happy/ happier. When that thing is gotten, we are happy for a moment and that is it.
A good example is when my kids beg to have a new toy. If they convince us to buy it, the very next moment they are asking for another one.
I remember when we first got married and my husband asked me why we got each other annoyed so often. As a man, he provided me with everything he could. Which really did not mean anything to me because, all I wanted was less headaches from him and a clear head to study.
I wanted school to be over with at that time and I was happy it happened. I remember clearly right after my nursing degree feeling terrible and sad. I wanted something more.
That something my husband could not give me and even my parents or siblings. Yes, your husband will not give you eternal happiness.
Most teenagers who run away from home think their parent are bad until they find out that boyfriend/girlfriend can't make them happier either. If they do, it is temporal.
Those who marry to find happiness get very disappointed and end up in a divorce. To sad no one ever told them marriage is not a fairy tale. Life is a struggle and marriage is life. For those marry will face many troubles in this life the bible tells us.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NIV)
It is only when I took my sadness to God that he opened my eyes to my blessings. Then I started counting them one by one. The list went on and on and I could not count them all.
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. (Psalm 118:1 NIV)
I learned to be thankful for the little things in life. I am alive and healthy, I am finally done with nursing school, I am married and have kids. I can call my siblings and my parents are alive. I have a church family and I'm in America.
I have a reason to be happy each day I wake up because of the joy of The Lord.
I took my sadness to God and he gave me Joy, that which is eternal, Christ. I have a reason to praise him because I am living and have breath.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. (Psalm 150:6 NIV)
The earlier we realize and seek the joy of The Lord, the happier we will be. Then, we will find true eternal happiness which only comes from believing in Christ.
Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. (John 17:3 NIV)
...Stop grieving and let the joy of The Lord be your strength. - Nehemiah 8:10
Christ is eternal and if we seek his joy, then we will find eternal happiness.
