What I have learned over the years is that your life is your story. You will think I will write about my life from childhood till now right! Oh no! When I mean story it means the story about my salvation. The typical person would say something like this “ I grew up in a Christian home and my parents went to church and took me with them which makes them a Christian” or “ my family never went to church but they talk about God and I went to a Christian school and it makes them a Christian.” Well, all these and much more are typical of todays church goers. What you will be reading is the story of a regular woman that seeks after God’s heart.
I was raised a Presbyterian and what I remember most as a child is my parents waking us up at 5 a.m for devotions. Yes, we had to start the day with devotions for many years but this gradually stopped and I remember asking my mother as a teenager why we did not do this anymore. Her respond was you get us up to start again only this time you will lead us. No mom! you must be joking, me? What do I know about devotions? I rather be the listener. The seed my parents had planted stayed in my heart. I badly wanted to be able to pray as a family every morning but life was getting to busy but the longing to study God’s word never left me. “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6.
Being a presbyterian Christian, I attended a youth group YP (Young Presbyterians) which was where I surrendered my all to Jesus during a worship service at age nine. I remember the youth leader told us about heaven and all its beauty and the only way to get there was by accepting Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior. Of course any normal nine year old will want to go to Disney Walt and that was the picture I had about heaven. I left YP that day a new me and wanted to do everything right not falling into sin ever again. Little did I know that, that evening I will get into a fight with a sibling, oh yes the challenges of living in the world. The most important thing that happened that day was I became a born again Christian " ... I tell you the truth, no one can seek the kingdom of God unless he is born again" (John 3:3) because I accepted that I was a sinner, repented from my sins and was saved by grace. “ That if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”(Romans 10:9). So, now I had been born again and there was rejoicing in heaven on that faithful day. I had been adopted into the family of God " he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will" (Ephesians 1:5) left to struggle here on earth yet, not alone for the promised Holy Spirit which is the seal of our salvation is our helper. Being a Christ follower equals battles with the enemy (the devil). “ For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” -Ephesians 6:12. The good news is God never leaves his children alone, for he grows our faith in Him during our struggles. “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him” -James 1:12. God always wins and makes the devil the liar he is condemned to be and yes the enemy is the father of lies.

This is wonderful Etonde! I am amazed at the number of people that truly believe they are Christians but have never asked Jesus into their heart. This took me a while to realize. I blog too! http://inourshoes-kate.blogspot.com/
