Patience is Action!!!

It was observation day at my girls ballet class and all I could think of is how does she get all these girls to listen. She must love to work with kids plus they are cute together when they finally get it.

Most of the girls listened and danced to the music, others just went their own way which made it more fun to watch. It was very beautiful to see how much they had learned in the past months.

( Love is patient, discipline takes patience, patience is an action)

All I'm thinking is why can't they just listen more to me at home. I want them to listen to me and teach them to be nice to their teachers.

But for me to listen to them takes a lot of patience on my part. Maybe because I have to say one thing like a hundred times before they get it.

Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die. Punish them with the rod and save them from death. (Proverbs 23:13-14 NIV)

Because they do not listen to me I get very frustrated at times. Yet, I still love them and need to get them to understand the consequence of not listening and taking action(obedience).

Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. (Colossians 3:20 NIV)

Yes, it is my responsibility to make sure they act right by not avoiding discipline. Withholding discipline from them is withholding knowledge which is wisdom.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Proverbs 1:7 NIV)

It takes discipline for them to follow instructions at ballet. That discipline starts at home.

As I learn to love them patiently despite their human rebellious nature, I see myself in them.

My Heavenly Father points out clearly to me how patient of a God he is. " Learn from me Etonde and do not be harsh on them. Remember how patient I am with you. You don't listen all the time either."

Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged. (Colossians 3:21 NIV)

This was a conviction I had as the Holy Spirit spoke clearly.

In as much as we teach and discipline our kids, we have to do it patiently. Learning how patient our Heavenly Father is patient with us. Love is patient!

Let our frustrations of having perfect kids teach us how to be patient and how imperfect we all are.

The truth is, I thought I was patient until I had kids. Then, the Holy Spirit brought to light my weakness and the love of a patient God.

I had to act on my impatience, by loving them patiently in my discipline. Are we not supposed to teach by example?

Let He who is Patient teach us how to be  patient. God is Patient.
