Marriage is a Living thing!

It will be 3 months tomorrow since my dad went to heaven and did not return. This morning, I'm missing him really bad so I picked up one of his letters to me.

This section contains a lot of wisdom on marriage. It was written on August 8th 2010 right from his desk as a marriage counsellor. One of the jobs he did as a Mayor of his town(Bamenda), Cameroon.

At that time, I was going through a very rough time in my marriage. I had called and told him I could not take it any longer. I was about to walk away when he sent this letter my way.

"My dear daughter, love is like a seed that you plant in the ground. You prepare the ground and make it ready to receive the seed. Once it is planted there must be enough moisture to enable the seed to sprout. When the growing process commences, you continue to nurse it and guard the growing plant against predators. You do this until the plant matures and even then, you do not loose guard because predators can still set in at any time. This nursing/protecting process in a marriage setting is continuous, because marriage is a living thing. Both parties must get engaged in this nursing and protecting game."- Francis Achiri Ade

Back then, I really did not understand the content of it as I now do. I listened to him and stayed with my husband, a decision I'm very thankful I did.

Listen to what he said, "love is like a seed"

Do you see the parable of the sower in this letter?

What I get from this now!!

God is love. The word of God is love. The word of God is a seed that we must plant in our hearts. Love(The Word) is a seed we must plant in marriage. We must plant the word of God in our marriage relationship.

We must prepare and continue to water the ground for it to mature. We must continue to study the word of God which is love. We must abide in the love of God.

“And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.”
I John 4:16 NKJV

You must never loose guard of this seed of love if not predators will come and kill it. Predators are bad weeds in the parable of the sower and all the attacks the enemy throws at our marriage.

If we plant love(The Word of God) in our hearts/marriage then, we will be able to stand the already defeated schemes of the enemy. We can't loose guard of love(The Word) because it is a living thing.

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12

I could go on and on in explaining the revelation hidden in my dad's words to me but, all I can say is, he was a gift from God to me. I will be forever greatful.

He showed me what true love is, love was at the very beginning of the world.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
John 1:1 NKJV
